Working Class
The characters are
positioned quite vulnerable as they’re stuck together, wearing similar clothing like track suits and puffy coats. The woman to me looks to be the mother of
these four children as she’s holding one of them in a mother nurturing way that
tells me that they’re family. They depend on each other a lot as there is no
man in the family, as he is not with them in this image. A single mum with four
children with different fathers as one of them is a different race. Probably
living off benefits as they’re standing outside a council estate, standing next
to bins. They’re dressed in a casual way, clothes that you’d only wear at home.
The girls on the left hand side is wearing her hat in a slanted manner, showing
that she might be rebellious or into her fashion. The shot type is a medium
long shot, as they want to show the family’s clothing and the background. This
is reinforcing the stereotype of under working class, as they’re showing them
as poor, homeless, jobless, unhappy family and single mum.
*MAX AND GEMMA IMAGE*
Gender
How she is
positioned is rather sexual as she is sitting on the desk, smiling, looking
into the male’s eyes. The shot type is medium long shot as they want to get the
background setting in the shot as she has come in to the man’s work place, she
is dressed in a short skirt and top unlike the man wearing his suit and tie. We
associate a suit and tie as a hard working person, who earns his living and on
the other hand the short skirt and top makes the female look desperate for
attention. The camera shot is an over shoulder shot from the males perspective.
This is positioned like that because they wanted to make the audience view this
woman how this male character is seeing her. She is also on top of the desk,
again relating to the desperation to get attention as she is obviously stopping
his from working. Her hair colour is blonde which stereotypically means she is
dumb, flirty and sexy. She is reinforcing this stereotype.
*MASOOD AND HIS FAMILY IMAGE*
This is a Muslim family;
I know this because the females are wearing head scarfs. They are sitting
closely together; it could be that they’re listing to some serious news. The camera
shot is an over shoulder shot as they want the audience to see the family’s
reaction towards the news. They are having a serious/ tense facial expression;
this indicates that something has gone wrong from the man in the right hand
side. The youngest son looks bored of the topic as his hand is positioned to
rest his head. The father character looks quite distant from the family as he
is sat at the end of the sofa; his arms are crossed showing that this topic is
very interesting or that he might be involved in an incident. On the other the
rest of the family are sat normally with their hands on their laps as they’re
thinking about what this man has to say. The women are dressed in a cultural manner;
the males on the other hand are not as they’re not wearing that Muslim hat. It is
challenges the Muslim stereotype as the guys don’t have beards and they’re
having tea. Those having tea challenges stereotype as British people are often
assumed have tea when they’re having a chat with a house guest. On the other
hand it is reinforcing the stereotype as that all British Asians are Muslims. Females
are wearing the cultural headscarf.
